Looks like the only manufacturer that's got a product ready to release to
the market is Mitsubishi. They plan to release a 65" Laser TV - Model L65-A90. The
LaserTV called "LaserVue" is 10.6 inches deep, 137lbs, and wall mountable. Four
HDMI 3.1a ports, Three component inputs, DVI port, 3D glasses emitter, 2 RF antenna
inputs, and closing with an S-Video input.
Developers
Arasor and Novalux demonstrated a
prototype, 50-inch laser TV built by Mitsubishi Electric in
Sydney. Arasor, which develops the optoelectronic chip, and
Novalux, which supplies the laser modules.
Arasor and Novalux began work on
the laser TV project five years ago and found interest
among TV makers who were seeking alternative technologies to
plasma and LCD for flat panel displays. The move to
high-definition video consoles from Microsoft, Sony and
Nintendo, and high-definition DVD players coming to market.
Novalux chief executive
Jean-Michel Pelaprat is so bold as to predict the death of
plasma. Arasor expected to raise $35 million Australia dollars
($26 million USD) when it went public on the Australian Stock
Exchange, however product doubt and delay after delay cuased
stocks to fair poorly.
Pricing
Apparently the first commercial Laser HDTV will
go on sale 3rd quarter of 2008. Promises of competative pricing
to current market products were not to far off with the first
model (65" from Mitsubishi) suggested retail of $6,999.99. Laser
TV's use less power, so think of it as going green, and saving
on your electric bill.
Laser maker Novalux predicted LCD TVs would
come to dominate the market below 40 inches, and laser
television the market above that screen size, displacing
plasma.
